There’s more than just sea, salt, and sand in Langkawi Island.
Best time to visit the island: December and March
#1 BED OF CLOUDS
Take a ride with Langkawi’s popular cable car (Sky-cab) and enjoy the scenic view over the island. But be aware: the ride is not for the faint-hearted, this is one of steepest cable car ropes in the world! But of course, it’s absolutely safe! Once you reach the top of Machincang mountain, you can enjoy a 360-degree view of the islands and the flora around, it’s absolutely stunning!
#2 STREET FOOD HUNTERS, GO
Monday: Ulu Melaka, Tuesday: Kedawang, Wednesday: Kuah Town, Thursday: Pantai Cenang, Friday: Air Hangat, Saturday: Kuah Town & Sunday: Padang Matsirat
Opening hours: 7pm-10pm
The food is super delicious and relatively cheap at the night market! There is no better place to try local foods, and it won’t hurt your budget! You can find grilled chicken or seafood, fresh juices, homemade ice tea, fresh fruits, salads, satay, samosas and many different sweets – the list is endless.
#3 JETSKI ISLAND HOPPING
The ride is breathtaking, bizarre rock formations paired with white beaches. There are several stops where you can explore the island, jungle trek, and swim in a freshwater lake. It’s fun!
#4 BE ADVENTUROUS
If you have too much energy, you will love this! Skytrex is an opened outdoor adventure park where you can climb, swing, crawl or glide through the jungle. It’s a lot of fun and excitement, but also physically challenging if you’re not the fittest person.
#5 FRED THE FLINSTONE
The Kilim Karst Geoforest Park is ranked as Langkawi’s #01 Attraction on Tripadvisor, you can’t leave the island without seeing this natural wonder! Take a boat and explore the Kilim Karst Geoforest Park that features a breathtaking landscape of limestone formations, mangrove forests, caves, and beaches.
#6 EAT CRABS AND TALK CRAP
Langkawi’s cuisine was over the top and I enjoyed some of my most delicious meals there. Try Hole In The Wall – a floating restaurant and fish farm inside Kilim Karst Geoforest Park. They offer a wide range of seafood, lobsters, crabs, squid, sea bass, red snapper, etc. You name it, you get it!
#7 FLY LIKE A G6
Parasailing and enjoying the beautiful view of Tanjung Rhu, one of the best beaches in Langkawi. It’s wonderful!
#8 YOU’LL LOVE BEING A SCARECROW
If you’re a city person, you’ll probably be amazed by this. Wandering along the rice fields in Pantai Cenang, taking images of the picturesque scenery. It’s breathtaking! There’s a rice museum, too (and it’s free)! It’s more like an outdoor museum, a great place to learn about rice cultivation.
#9 BAY WATCHING
Langkawi offers some pretty lovely beaches (Tanjung Rhu/ Pantai Cenang/ Tengah Beach) with white powder sand and emerald waters. The sea isn’t crystal clear, but the beaches are definitely good enough for a relax afternoon picnic, some beach bumming or just watching the sunset.
#10 THE ROOM OF ILLUSION
If you love art and selfies, you will lose yourself in this place (3D Art Museum). Actually, it’s hard to capture the giant 3D paintings while taking selfies, make sure to bring a friend or at least a tripod! The museum features places such as the gondolas in Venice, the pyramids in Egypt, safaris and rainforests, surf spots and loads of fantasy landscapes. A great place for a fun afternoon!
#11 HOP ONTO A RHINO
Rhino is the type of 4-wheeler that you can take a mangroves tour. It’s such a blast riding around the rivers, jungle, paddy fields, and is a unique way to sightsee.
Tip: wear sunblock and mosquito spray.
#12 PREPARE TO STORE YOUR FRIDGE
Apart from all the fun that you are planning to do, Langkawi is a duty-free island, which means chocolates and wines are ridiculously cheap there. HEAVEN!
